Forbes has named Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi 9th in its annual list of the “World’s Most Powerful People,” a ranking of 73 individuals whose actions can cause waves on a global scale.
Modi’s first year in office has seen India’s GDP grow by more than 7.4 percent, largely due to his concerted efforts in the economic arena such as the “Make in India” initiative. Following the campaigns implementation in 2015, India emerged as the top international destination for foreign direct investment, surpassing the People’s Republic of China as well as the United States, according to the Times of India.
In order to ascertain their shortlist, Forbes reported that they considered candidates from various candidates around the world and measured their power along four dimensions: whether they have power over many people, the financial resources under their control, whether the candidate is powerful in multiple spheres, and lastly, whether they actively used their power.
